{"id":48,"date":"2018-12-10T14:00:03","date_gmt":"2018-12-10T14:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/?p=48"},"modified":"2026-03-05T15:16:28","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T15:16:28","slug":"physiotherapy-service-helping-pets-recover-from-surgery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/physiotherapy-service-helping-pets-recover-from-surgery\/","title":{"rendered":"Physiotherapy Service Helping Pets Recover From Surgery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our vet nurse Rebecca Humphrey has realised her ambition of treating sick animals with physiotherapy and now offers the service here at Spinney Vets.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca recently completed the BSAVA vet nurse merit award in rehabilitation and physiotherapy and is running physiotherapy and osteoarthritis clinics at our Kettering Road hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The service aids the recovery of pets who may have undergone orthopaedic surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca said: \u201cPhysiotherapy has been found to aid the recovery of pets who have undergone orthopaedic surgery by reducing pain and increasing muscle strength and flexibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt works in a similar way to human physiotherapy, in assessing the patient\u2019s abilities and producing a personalised physiotherapy plan to aid the animal\u2019s rehabilitation needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese can include complimentary therapies, passive or active exercises, massages and other techniques to support the animal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca will also be teaching pet owners physiotherapy techniques so they can continue treating their pet at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter being diagnosed by a vet, we offer osteoarthritis mobile clinics to help owners learn more about the disease and how they can help their pets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis includes noticeable signs of pain, ways to slow down the deterioration of the disease, weight management, home environment, exercise routines, nutritional supplements and complimentary therapies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Iain Fletcher, clinical director here at Spinney Vets, said: \u201cRebecca has worked really hard to achieve her qualification, which will benefit our patients who require physio and rehab treatment.
