{"id":133,"date":"2019-09-10T15:53:17","date_gmt":"2019-09-10T14:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/?p=133"},"modified":"2019-09-10T15:58:22","modified_gmt":"2019-09-10T14:58:22","slug":"leading-northampton-vets-offer-sound-advice-for-anxious-pets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/leading-northampton-vets-offer-sound-advice-for-anxious-pets\/","title":{"rendered":"Leading Northampton vets offer sound advice for anxious pets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pet owners are being urged to prepare for what experts at a Northampton vets have highlighted as the most anxious time of year for animals.<\/p>\n<p>Noisy celebrations such as Halloween, Bonfire Night, Diwali, Christmas and New Year are all identified as occasions which cause increased anxiety and stress for pets.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_134\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-134\" style=\"width: 197px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-134 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/ian-fletcher-197x300.jpg\" alt=\"iain-fletcher-spinney-vets\" width=\"197\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/ian-fletcher-197x300.jpg 197w, https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/ian-fletcher.jpg 258w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-134\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Spinney Vets clinical director Iain Fletcher<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Help is at hand though, as Spinney Vets, which runs free nurse-led anxiety clinics, is also running a Comfort your Pet campaign which is aimed at raising awareness of the challenges of the upcoming party season, while also providing advice, guidance and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Clinical director Iain Fletcher, said: \u201cThis is the most challenging time of year for pet owners as there are so many potential triggers of stress and anxiety in animals coming up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are the bangs of fireworks, the noisy and hectic festive season \u2013 including unfamiliar faces and smells \u2013 and, of course, the possibility of autumn thunderstorms and earlier dark evenings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll can cause stress and anxiety in our pets and while some owners will seek guidance and advice, we also know there are many others who just suffer through this period with their pets not knowing that help is available.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_136\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-136\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-136 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/snoozing-dog-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"relaxed-dog-spinney-vets\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/snoozing-dog-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.northampton-vets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/snoozing-dog.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-136\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Make sure your pets are prepared for noisy celebrations.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAt Spinney Vets we offer free anxiety clinics run by our experienced nurses, including one who has completed a two-year animal behaviour course, who can give you great advice on how to help your pets with any noise phobias.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe aim of the Comfort your Pet campaign is to raise awareness of the potential problems which may lie ahead, promote the numerous precautions and highlight the effective treatments which are available in a bid to ensure people are well informed and well prepared to cope with any potential problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will be providing lots of advice and guidance and can offer stress-busting treatments such as Feliway and Adaptil diffusers and collars, which help comfort pets and keep them calm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Iain said many owners may also wish to try sound therapy to desensitise their pets prior to fireworks season. \u201cSounds Scary\u201d is now available to download for free from the Dogs Trust website at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/SoundsScary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bit.ly\/SoundsScary<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now is the time to start as sound therapy needs to begin at least eight weeks before the noisy events are expected to start and then to be continued throughout the year for best results.<\/p>\n<p>The Comfort your Pet campaign begins on Monday, September 30 and runs until Sunday, January 5, 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pet owners are being urged to prepare for what experts at a Northampton vets have highlighted as the most anxious time of year for animals.
